Big old weekend down here in Monterey, California, We lucked out with Blue skies and minimal wind. I was on the podium both days, finishing 4th in both the Slalom, and the DH. Jill Won the Slalom, and finished 2nd in the DH.

Just packing everything up for our trip to South Africa for the first World Cup. I'm out on a early flight, i think it's 27hrs door to door.. Big trip, should be a ripper!

Transition Factory Racing: Jill Kintner takes PRO GRT win

 
Transition Factory Racing: Jill takes PRO GRT win. Bryn 5th, and Lars 14th in mens.
This weekend marked the beginning of the 2011 season in North America with the first stop of the PRO GRT series in Port Angeles, WA.
The Transition Racing crew arrived on thursday for track walk and setup. The forcast was calling for a mixed bag over the weekend, and everyone kept waiting for the weather to roll in. We would eb kept on the edge of our seats so to speak until finals time on Sunday however. Until then we were shined upon by the sun for the first time in what seemed like all winter. The track benefited from the warmth and rays by gettin faster and tackier every day. The Transition squad were enjoying themselves in practice and having a good time catching up with everyone from the from the off season.
The course was getting raved about and before we new it it was quali time. All three riders made it down safe with Jill in the lead, Bryn in 4th, and Lars in 9th.

Sunday morning brought cloudy skies and the ever looming threat of rain was the buzz all day. After a single practice run it was time to wait for the amateur categories to finish their racing. With over 400 racers at 1 minute intervals it takes quite a while till race time for the Pro's.By the time it was time for the team to race the rain had started drastically changing the conditions of the track. Jill was the first team member to come down, and took a hard earned victory over a solid field of ladies.

Lars was the next down and after a few off the pedal squirrelouts settled into 14th place overall. Last down was Bryn who had a close encounter with a tree in his run but still managed to make the podium in 5th place. All in all it was a solid start to the season, with some challenging race conditions.

Bryn Atkinson dropped us a few lines after last weekends race!

Hey Guy's, 

Just a quick update on the weekend in Port Angeles. Little wet and wild for yesterday's race, It rained all day, a little cold too.. I took a little detour in my Final run and hit a tree, not super sweet.. Finished 5th. Healthy and dialled, onto the Otter.

Jill smashed it, laid down a pretty good time in comparison to the men, 1st place for the little lady. Lars was a little wobbly in his run finishing 14th, but is riding well, we are all ripping, so good times ahead.

Our bikes are feeling really solid for this years racing!

DEVELOPING OUR NEW TORSION DH AND DH MINI SADDLE WITH JILL KINTNER

Pretty stoked that my prototype mini seat has basically gone to production at Kore!! Last year I was having a few issues with thigh bruising from a regular length seat, and also not being able to lower it enough with tire buzz, so got to wondering why do we even need a big nose on a seat, and extra overhang at the back? The woodpecker needed to be fixed…
Few years back Oscar Saiz rode a little hoof looking seat with no nose , which looked really retarded, but it had to have function to be that ugly. We did some experimenting and concluded that having the seat too high or too big of nose compromised bike lean in downhill, at least for Bryn and I.
So I busted out a dremmel and some shoe glue and went to work on my previous saddle to come up with a really nice little number that functions so much better than the previous version, for me. Cut a bunch off the nose, the back, and tapered the sides a bit.
Kore is keeping the graphics inline with their torsion line, so this is not like my signature seat. My version is a bit different, but this torsion production seat serves the purpose of the mini seat.  Thank you Kore for being awesome and adapting our ideas:) .... Jill

TRANSITION BIKES BRYN ATKINSON TAKES 3RD AT AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL CHAMPS

Eagle Mountain Bike park- Adelaide, Australia:
Feb 27th marked the date of the Australian National Championships of Downhill. Hosted at Eagle Mountain bike park for the 2nd year in a row, this year proved to be as competative as ever. With a course length of just over 2 minutes for the Elites, and temperatures reaching 97 degrees, the riders were in for a heated battle thet assured some very tight racing.
Bryn made the 14 hour drive solo, leaving Jill at home to train and avoid the scorching temps. After a day or two of dusty practice it was time to lay down a qualifying run. Bryn had a few complications during his seeding on Friday, but kept it together for a solid 8th place finish. Top three looked like this after qualifying: 1. Mic Hannah 2.03.12 2. Chris Kovarik 2.03.69 + 0.57 3. Rhys Atkinson 2.07.38 + 4.26.

Come Sunday the riders were all ready to get the finals under way. After some exciting racing in the Juniors, and Pro Womens events the Elite field hit the track. Bryn had a solid run and was just edged out by Mick Hannah, and Josh Button. Podium looked like this: 1. Michael Hannah, QLD, 2:02.36 2. Joshua Button, NSW, 2:04.27 + 1.91 3. Bryn Atkinson, ACT, 2:04.33 + 1.97. Bryn Had this to say-

"We have been experimenting with tubeless, and for some reason I lost some pressure in my tires. Anyway, I left the gate and noticed it right away, my tires were just rolling around a bunch.. Being a heavier rider, i tend to roll them off the rim if they are too low, so had to shut it down. The same thing happened in my final run, even though I double checked everything, but I just put it behind me, and pinned it. I put together a good final, and pushed all the way, but wasn't enough for the win. Gotta be honest, this was an all or nothing event, so i was a little disappointed, but happy to be putting in good solid race efforts leading up to the season...

4 more weeks at home here in Aus, then it's back to U.S for the International season. Can't wait!"
